In my country that was the time of changes – the time of “perestroika” (rebuilding). The relationship between USSR and USA became more friendly. My Dad liked prove his English by talking with foreign tourists, also he often read the newspaper “Moscow news”. And one day he had known about international childhood penpal organization for school child, the initiator was Michelle Chervony.
We sent request to the organization and forget about it..but..in year we had gotten the letter from that international penpal club..! with addresses of American boy Joushua Fielding (Jo-shi-a! Hello!), Castle Dale, Utah. Oh…we had wrote reply notes for Joshua, at first we thought that Joshua is a girl’s name, but that was a boy (Joshua is translated as Jesus!). In 3-6 months we had got a letter from Joshua and his Dad (for my Dad) – the famous 1st letter!. Wow..that was a real miracle! We were very glad about it.

We shared 3-4 letters, then they sent for us the examples of US money: dollar, 25, 50, 10 cent and cards with baseball men..All that things were new for us, in former USSR we was not able to have that.
But our penpal experience was not very long, once they promised to sent jeans Levis and the Book of Mormons in Russian, in that time we did not have knowledge about Mormons (we thought that is a Christian church), and my Dad wrote that I go in for reading the Bible and listening of Christian broadcast (even we lived in dad’s job in Siberian taiga and broadcast was only connect with external world). After that reply we had not been answer on our letter.
But years were passed and in present ages Internet had come to Russia, and I begin very fast, interesting and effectively penpal correspondence.
What can you tell about your first penpal experience?

My first penpal was a boy from Accra, Ghana, in 1996. We were pals for 1 year, and then we lost contact.
